Pakistan is grappling with the dual challenges of rapid urbanization and climate change, which are contributing to a significant loss of green infrastructure in its urban areas. As the urban population is projected to swell significantly by 2050, the urgency to adopt sustainable development practices becomes increasingly critical.

Environmental experts highlight the pressing need for integrated strategies to address these challenges. They advocate for the development of policies that encourage community-based projects like kitchen gardening, as well as collaborative efforts between government entities, local communities, and environmental organizations to enhance urban sustainability. They also emphasize the importance of including climate considerations in land planning, advocating for sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting to mitigate environmental degradation.

Nasir Ali Panhwar focuses on the detrimental effects of urban heat islands, advocating for green infrastructure solutions like green roofs and vertical gardens. These initiatives not only alleviate thermal stress in densely populated areas but also enhance air quality and biodiversity, making cities more livable and resilient against climate adversities.
